FEATURES / TEAMS

Give someone one project, not the whole account.

Most tools make you choose between full access and no access. Depfloy has five roles, and on top of them a scope — so a client's developer gets exactly the servers and projects that are theirs.

Organizations and team members is available on the Business plan. Compare plans →

FIVE ROLES

What each role can do.

These are the descriptions the product itself shows when you assign a role, so what a teammate reads in the invite is what you read here.

Owner Full access to all organization settings, servers, and team members.
Admin Full access to the organization, except managing or assigning Owner roles.
Manager Manages servers and team, but not billing or organization settings.
Developer Full access to servers and sites, but can't create new servers.
Viewer View all servers, sites, and sensitive data without making changes.
SCOPING

The part that makes client work possible.

A role says what someone can do. A scope says where. Set a member to specific servers or specific projects and the rest of the organization sits outside what their session can reach — the interface is not the thing enforcing it.

An activity log that answers "who did that"

Deploys, server changes, project updates, environment edits and permission changes are all recorded with the member who made them. Filter by person, category or date.

One person, several organizations

A member can hold a different role in each organization they belong to, and switch between them from the console. An agency developer can be a Developer for one client and a Viewer for another without a second account.

FAQ

Team questions

Can a member be limited to one project? +
Yes. On top of the role, each member has a scope: all servers and projects, or a specific list. A contractor brought in for one site is given that site and sees nothing else in the organization.
What is the difference between Manager and Developer? +
A Manager runs servers and the team but not billing or organization settings. A Developer has full access to servers and sites but cannot create new servers — which is usually the line you want between someone shipping code and someone spending money.
Can a Viewer see environment variables? +
Viewers can see sensitive data without changing it, so treat the role as read access to the whole organization rather than a safe default for outsiders. For an outsider, use scoping to narrow what "everything" means.
Is there an audit trail? +
Every deploy, server change, project update and permission change is recorded in the activity log with who did it and when, filterable by member, category and date.
Can one person belong to several organizations? +
Yes, with a different role in each. An agency developer can be a Developer in one client organization and a Viewer in another, and switches between them from the console.
